YMWAHA provides transportation by skilled part-time staff to manage court-supported visits between children in foster care and their birth family members. Scheduling and managing visits is a principal element of the Transportation And Visitation Program which encourages continued communication and interaction between children in out of home placement and their birth families.
The Transportation Coordinator and staff facilitate an average of 75 trips per week in addition to evaluating child safety, arranging suitably interactive visit sites, sibling visits, and very often multiple yet separate birth family member visits. Preparations are made on an individual basis to meet required special needs of those involved. Approximately 40% of visits are held at the YMWAHA office. When appropriate, families are encouraged to use a variety of family-friendly, community-based locations throughout the county with an emphasis on child safety. The transportation program is funded by Allegheny County Department of Human Services. |
